Shell Cameo

What is a shell cameo?

A cameo is an object carved so that the image appears three-dimensional.
Its origins are said to date back approximately 5,000 to 6,000 years.

The raw shells are thoroughly dried, carefully cut, and the most beautiful parts are selected.
Then it is hand-carved by a craftsman.
The shell has a two-layer structure, and by carving out the white outer layer and making use of the red and brown base color of the underlying layer,
It creates a rich expression, as if light and shadow are coming together.

La mascotte's cameo collection began with an encounter with an Italian cameo artist.
Designer Kawase's original designs are hand-carved by a maestro one by one.
This creative dialogue has continued uninterrupted for over 20 years.

Cameos have been passed down for thousands of years with little change.
La mascotte adds a touch of modern sensibility to this quiet tradition, breathing new life into it.
A place where ancient handicrafts meet modern design.
The light that emerges there is the beauty that La mascotte cameos radiate.
